<p>The latest exhibition by Tokyo-based artist <strong><a href="https://gallery.afloimages.com/brand/hiroshi-yoshida/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hiroshi Yoshida</a></strong>, <strong>“Impermanence”</strong>, opens this March in Nakano, Tokyo.</p>

<p>Known for his distinctive practice combining stone, water, and photography, Yoshida explores the fragile balance between natural forces and human intervention. His work centers on <strong>rock balancing</strong>, creating sculptural forms that exist only momentarily before inevitably collapsing—captured through photography and video as a record of that fleeting equilibrium.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="2000" height="1500" src="https://i0.wp.com/gallery.afloimages.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/03.jpg?resize=2000%2C1500&#038;ssl=1" alt="Impermanence photo exhibition Artworks" class="wp-image-1727"/></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">A meditation on transience</h3>

<p>“Stone does not move, water does not stay.”</p>

<p>This poetic concept lies at the heart of <em>Impermanence</em>. The exhibition reflects on the ephemeral nature of existence—moments that dissolve as soon as they are formed—inviting viewers to observe and contemplate the delicate tension between stillness and change.</p>

<p>The exhibition features works from Yoshida’s ongoing <em>LandArt</em> series, alongside video pieces and a newly created work titled <em>River Stream</em>.<br>Through these works, Yoshida presents nature not as a static subject, but as an active collaborator shaped by gravity, water flow, and time.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="2000" height="1500" src="https://i0.wp.com/gallery.afloimages.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/05.jpg?resize=2000%2C1500&#038;ssl=1" alt="Impermanence photo exhibition Artworks" class="wp-image-1728"/></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Live performance</h3>

<p>A special live performance will take place during the exhibition, where Yoshida will create his rock balancing works in real time, accompanied by live music from members of the ambient/post-classical group <strong>Anoice</strong>.</p>

<p>The performance offers a rare opportunity to witness the artist’s process—where creation and collapse exist within the same continuous act.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="2000" height="1500" src="https://i0.wp.com/gallery.afloimages.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/01.jpg?resize=2000%2C1500&#038;ssl=1" alt="Impermanence photo exhibition Venue" class="wp-image-1730"/></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Exhibition Information</h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">About the Artist</h3>

<p>Hiroshi Yoshida is a Tokyo-based artist working across photography, video, and environmental art. Using natural materials such as stone and water, he creates temporary sculptural forms that explore harmony, gravity, and the passage of time.</p>

<p>His works are not meant to endure—they are instead records of a moment, where balance is achieved only briefly before returning to nature.</p>

<p>We recently ran the group photo exhibition &#8220;PLAYLIST Vol.1&#8221; at <a href="https://coco-ps.jp/en/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>CO-CO Photo Salon</strong></a> in Ginza. It was our way to celebrate the launch of the Aflo Gallery website. The exhibition lasted two weeks, and we are overwhelmed by how good it went! More than 200 visitors came to check the images and have a chat with the artists. Overall a great sucess!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="681" src="https://i0.wp.com/gallery.afloimages.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/01.jpg?resize=1024%2C681&#038;ssl=1" alt="View of prints hanging at gallery in Ginza during photo exhbition PLAYLIST VOL.01" class="wp-image-1424" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/gallery.afloimages.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/01.jpg?resize=1024%2C681&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/gallery.afloimages.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/01.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/gallery.afloimages.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/01.jpg?resize=768%2C511&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/gallery.afloimages.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/01.jpg?resize=600%2C399&amp;ssl=1 600w, https://i0.wp.com/gallery.afloimages.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/01.jpg?w=1200&amp;ssl=1 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></figure>

<p>“PLAYLIST Vol.1” brings together fresh voices and bold visions from emerging photographers based in Japan. Like a playlist curated for a moment, a mood, or a memory, it brings together a collection of visual voices. Each distinct, yet harmonising in unexpected ways.</p>

<p>Through documentary fragments, poetic stillness, raw spontaneity, and quiet observation, these images form a rhythm shifting between perspectives, styles, and emotions, yet held together by a shared curiosity and a fresh creative pulse.</p>
