We are pleased to introduce new artist Tomoko Ichinokawa. Her photography explores memory, imagination, and the quiet emotions that stay with us.
Ichinokawa began taking photographs in 2013. Her work looks inward, drawing on distant memories, childhood imagination, and the dreamlike worlds found in picture books. Rather than simply documenting what she sees, she uses photography to give shape to images and feelings that exist somewhere in her mind.
Her photographs often have a quiet, dreamlike quality. Familiar scenes can feel slightly distant or unreal, as if they belong to a memory that is difficult to fully recall. This creates an open space for viewers to bring their own memories and emotions into the images.
Ichinokawa has presented her work in numerous solo exhibitions in Tokyo and beyond. Her recent exhibitions include “Even if the sky cracks and lies drop” at Sony Imaging Gallery in Ginza in 2024, and “Distant Voice” at Kinkan Gallery in Meguro. Earlier exhibitions include “blurs.”, “JARDIN”, “PRESAGE”, and “Shinoburedo”.
